AIDS Awareness Clubs and Youth Groups
OYO engages directly with young people by setting up and supporting AIDS Awareness Clubs in schools and Youth Groups for out-of-school youth. These clubs and groups receive regular visits from our dedicated and enthusiastic assistants who lead creative arts based workshops that encourage young people to explore HIV and AIDS as well as other social issues. Currently, OYO supports around 100 groups in the Kunene and Erongo regions.

OYO, Young, latest and cool
At the heart of our work with young people is our magazine, OYO, Young, latest and cool. Released once every two months, each edition addresses a different topic relating to HIV and AIDS and the social issues that surround it. Youth contributions and achievements form a key part of the magazine and are collected by OYO assistants during their visits to AIDS Awareness Clubs and Youth Groups. In addition to this, the magazine also features discussion points and expert advice columns dealing with law, human rights, sexual health and social issues.

Whenever a new issue is released, OYO assistants facilitate meetings with AIDS Awareness Clubs and Youth Groups in which the topic is further elaborated through discussion sessions and the creation of arts media. To view the list of OYO magazines click here.
Regional and National Tours
Every year members of several out-of-school Youth Groups are given the opportunity of a lifetime to develop their own performance pieces and take part in OYO’s regional and national tours. These tours take the work of OYO youth groups to thousands of people across Namibia. With every step the OYO message is disseminated and free condoms are handed out at each performance.
For those who are selected for the gruelling process, extensive training is provided on a wide variety of creative arts techniques as well as brooder life skills including leadership and teamwork.
