Welcome to our website  —  we hope you enjoy reading about what we do!

Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO) is a Namibian Trust aiming at creating social awareness among young people using Arts.

OYO works with young people to target social issues such as HIV prevention, sexual and reproductive health, children’s and human rights, gender, gender-based violence, alcohol and drug abuse, stigma and discrimination through writing, drama, dance, music, and the visual arts.  OYO programmes provide youth — whether they are in school or out of school — information and tools that enable them to make informed decisions.

OYO engages youth.  Youth create and perform in theatre, dance, video film productions, and exhibitions that are presented to schools and communities not only in their regions but also throughout Namibia.  Youth actively participate in creating for young people, publications such as the hugely popular magazine, OYO, Young, latest and cool, and in developing information, communications, education media that give a voice to Namibian youth and a platform for open discussion of issues they face and questions they have.

OYO’s work enables youth groups in schools and communities to contribute to raising awareness of teenage pregnancy, domestic or partner violence, rape, and discrimination and to encouraging behaviour chnge.  It enables individual youth to develop not only skills in the creative and performing arts but also life-long skills such as communication, reflective thinking, problem solving, teamwork, responsibility, and self discipline.
