OYO’s film ‘We were young’ was nominated at the Namibian Theatre and Film Awards 2010 for best editing. The ceremony was held in Windhoek on 20 November in the presence of most of Namibians theatre and film professionals. While ‘we were young’ did not win the award, it was still a great honour for the film to be nominated.

Elke Kinstcher, editor, is currently living in South Africa. However when we informed her about the nomination she was thrilled. The truth is that it was a well-deserved nomination. ‘We were young’ was originally a series of monologues. While monologues are very effective on stage, they are very difficult on screen. Elke and Philippe (OYO’s director) spent over four months working on the editing of ‘we were young’. It was a long process which bore its fruits last Saturday.

‘We were young’ has been presented in schools and communities throughout Namibia in 2010. It received great success and praise from the audiences and we are thrilled the film was recognised for its technical quality.

Horst Zaire, director of photography on ‘we were young’, received during the ceremony the prize for best cinematography for another of his films, ‘love is...’. We would like to take this chance to congratulate him. We were proud to work with him on ‘we were young’.
