On 10 March 2010 OYO launched, in the presence of the crew and cast, its latest DVD, ‘we were young’.
End of 2008, five talented young people were invited to reflect on the issue of life after school and write scripts. Three stories were developed. In January 2009, the OYO Director worked on the three stories and turned them into a script about four characters who interact with each other, telling their stories to the public. Four talented young actors (Nyandee Mbarandongo, Norman Kapunda, Bergo van Wyk and Estomine Haradoes) were selected and trained. Under the direction of Philippe Talavera, OYO’s director, they rehearsed the show that was toured first in the Kunene, Erongo and Khomas regions and later in the Oshana and Ohangwena regions. With a grand total of 23 899 audience members, this is by far the most widely seen OYO production to date.

The monologues were adapted for the screen. In order to spice up the production, additional characters were added. Shooting took place in Windhoek.

The DVD was then tested in schools in Kunene, Erongo and Omaheke regions where it was extremely well received by learners. It was launched during a successful event at the Franco-Namibian Centre on 10 March. Over 110 guests arrived for the launch and the DVD received praises from all. The DVD has then been sent to various festivals for consideration and OYO hopes it will be well-received not only nationally but also internationally.

Synopis:
Tyson (Nyandee Mbarandongo – The Namibian Odysseus, Because of them) tried smoking his first cigarette when he was still in Primary School. John (Norman Kapunda – The Namibian Odysseus) never liked school and wants to fail grade 10 in order to feel free again. Cubic (Bergo Van Wyk – A crack in the wall) dreams of the day he will finally meet his father. Patricia (Estomine Haradoes – Because of them) has learning difficulties and decided to drop out of school. Four young Namibians. Four stories, when once… we were young.
