OYO was privileged to collaborate with the Legal Assistance Centre (LAC) to produce two short plays:
- The first play, still untitled, deals with a school girl. Sylvia, who has left home because of her alcoholic mother. She meets Tony, a shy learner, about to finish his grade 12. They fell in love. But Tony feels pressured by his friend, Daniel, to have sex with Sylvia. Will she have sex with him, or will she not?
- The second play, ‘sex and chocolate’, follows the journey of Lucy, a second year student at the University of Namibia. Lucy is deeply in love with David. When she discovers that he is in fact in a relationship with a girl called Sharon, her life takes a U-turn. Will she choose to stay with him, knowing she is number 2, or will she break up with him?
Both plays therefore look at the decisions we take and the consequences they may have in our lives. Interpreted by seven talented young actors, the plays were extremely well received during test viewing in Windhoek. They have just started a two weeks tour that will bring them to the Kavango and Ohangwena regions. They will perform in 22 schools and for four communities. They are also expected to meet with the F. Dimbare youth group in Divundu and share experiences with them. Upon return to Windhoek at the beginning of October the plays will be turned into short films.
