'Think Twice' movie

The ‘Think Twice’ project is a collaboration between OYO and the Legal Assistance Centre (LAC). Two plays were created:

  • Sex and Chocolate: following the story of Lucy (El Juanita Philander), a student at the University of Namibia (UNAM) who is caught up in an unfaithful relationship. After discovering that her partner David (West Uarije) is cheating on her, she has to make a choice: either stick to the relationship, out of love for him, or break up and get out of his sexual network.
  • You are useless (tentative title): following the story of Sylvia (Jessica Augustus), a learner who has problems reconciling her lives: at home she is abused by her mother, at school she is loved by Tony (Ellion Howeseb), a shy senior learner. When tony proposes her, she has to make a choice: having sex with him or breaking up with him.

The plays therefore address issues around choices. They were turned into short films which were shot between 08 and 16 October. Famous camerawoman Linda Louw was seconded by OYO’s production coordinator, Matias Kamati. Wotjek Majewski recorded the sound. Special guests included Josef Molapong (famous Namibian actor and poet) as Sylvia’s father, Nyandee Mbarandongo (‘we were young’) as a UNAM student and the UNAM choir.

The shooting ran very smoothly and OYO wishes to thank the University of Namibia and A. Shipena Secondary School for allowing us to film on their premises. While the shooting schedule was hectic (as most shooting schedule are...), all those involved worked extremely hard and the director, Philippe Talavera, was satisfied with the result.

The films will now be edited and are expected to be completed by March 2011.
