OYO’s ‘Still Life’ photo exhibition was officially launched on Wednesday 5 December at Europe House in Windhoek.
The project aims to challenge the common assumption that once a person tests HIV positive life is over. It has sought to do this by training people living with the virus in the art of photography so that they could capture positive moments in their lives. The result has been a plethora of photos that show quite clearly that it is possible to live positive while being positive.
OYO director Philippe Talavera commented, ‘it is expected that many Namibians will see the exhibition and reflect on the myth that ‘once testing HIV positive, your life is a misery’. Hopefully, this will encourage people to go for the test and face the challenges of testing positive with less fear.’
The well-attended opening ceremony listened to enlightening speeches by keynote speaker Hon. Dr Kamwi, Minister of Health and Social Services, and H E Dr Elisabeth Pape, Ambassador of the European Delegation to Namibia. All invitees commented positively on the project.
