November 2006 - Rubber Soul - Condoms as you've never seen them

As part of the World AIDS Day celebration, the Ombetja Yehinga Organisation is presenting a showcase of condoms from all over the world in order to expose the public to the fact that condoms are not for Namibia or Southern Africa only, but are a currency used worldwide

Samples from Namibia, South Africa, UK, Netherlands, France, Poland, the US and many other countries will be presented.  The exhibition includes examples of free condoms distributed by health services, standard condoms available in pharmacies and funny, unusual condoms. You won’t believe some until you see them – like the condom hazelnut from Germany, the “one month of love’”box designed by artists from South Africa and France, or the musical condom from the Netherlands. The exhibition will also present posters and leaflets about condoms, together with an usual collection of condom garments by Namibian designers including Ina Maria, Sweetness Mwandwa-Mubita, Maria Caley, and Anne Ting

.

This exhibition can make a difference and help many Namibians to reflect on notions such as safe sex and consistent condom use. Once again we hope it will challenge stereotypes, promote discussion around condom use and negotiation, and safe sex practices, as well as encouraging men and women to take better care of their sexual health.

The exhibition will take place in the following places, on these dates:
24 November 2006 – Maerua Mall, Windhoek
25 November 2006 – Gustav Voigts Centre, Independence Avenue, Windhoek
1 December 2006 – Shoprite, Katutura.
