The Opuwo youth group is so talented that they were invited for a second tour, this time to the Otjozondjupa region, from 22 to 28 March 2010.
The group presented its show again in schools and communities, and the show was again extremely well received. It brought tears to many people eyes. Many people, after the performance, came to say how touched they were by the message.
The group was also invited to the Osire Refugee Camp on 27 March. Osire is the only camp for refugees in Namibia. It hosts more than 5000 people, most of them coming from Angola and DRC. It has a school attended by many learners. The group interacted with young refugees for the whole day. In the morning, they taught them some of their songs, so that the members could join their show. In the afternoon, they performed for a crowd of over 400 people. It was a powerful performance. It was a great experience for the group to sing with other talented young people who live far from their countries.

After the show, the group further interacted with some of the young people, which resulted in a netball match. After dinner, OYO presented two of its DVDs, ‘5 minutes of pleasure’ and ‘a crack in the wall’. Both DVD were well received. In ‘5 minutes of pleasure’ Valerie Tjirimuje, long term friend of OYO, is acting. Valerie also worked at Osire for a year. She was therefore well-known there and the DVD was a resounding success.
It was then time to hit the road again and get ready for the next day. The Opuwo youth group made a great impression wherever it stopped. The group had even increased in size and comprised this time 21 members. As with the first tour, it has proven to be extremely good and motivated. Congratulations guys! You really rocked! |
