Make a move

Large crowd at Sam Nujoma stadium watching performance

Each year OYO supports three to four talented youth groups, training them in the Arts of drama, dance and songs. Together with the groups, shows addressing social issues are prepared and toured for presentation in schools and to communities. In September, OYO invites the different youth groups it has worked with to attend the OYO youth festival.

In 2009, OYO was privileged to receive training from two amazing choreographers, Zoie Golding and Nadia Iftkhar from the UK and work with four talented youth groups: Outjo and Khorixas in the Kunene region, Karibib in the Erongo region and Okahandja in the Otjozondjupa region. OYO toured the Karas, Kavango, Caprivi, Ohangwena, Oshana, Omusati and Otjikoto regions and reached over 25,600 people. Together, we made 2009 a great success. We made a move!

All the steps taken both by the OYO staff and the youth groups were recorded. They have finally been presented together as a 42 minutes documentary. This DVD recaps the process followed during the year with the different youth groups. Highlights include ‘It feels’ song (created by the Karibib youth group), ‘Think’ (created by Zoie Golding), ‘common ground’ (created by Nadia Iftkhar) and ‘denying’ (created by Philippe Talavera). As a bonus the OYO festival show is included – viewer can then witness the power of young people coming together and working towards a common goal.

The DVD was presented to the youth groups OYO worked with in 2010 as part of the OYO festival 2010.  It was very well received. It will be presented in Khorixas, Outjo, Karibib and Okahandja between 15 October and 15 November 2010. It will finally be presented in Windhoek to partners and members of the press on 01 and 02 February 2011 at the FNCC. So watch out for this exciting production!
