Each year OYO invites the groups it has worked with to take part in the OYO festival. The OYO festival is a gathering of young people who have worked in different communities towards a common performance. The performances are recorded and a program is then prepared.
The 2009 festival was recorded by OYO’s production coordinator Matias Kamati and cameraperson Horst Zaire. Philippe Talavera divided the 2009 programme in two parts:
- Part 1: the documentary. This section focuses on the process followed by OYO, from the training of staff by experts to the presentation of the festival show in schools and communities. It is targeting mostly stakeholders and people who are interested in the process OYO follows with young people.
- Part 2: the show. This section summarises the festival show, presenting the drama, dances and songs that were part of the festival. It can be presented to schools and communities as it has a strong message about the consequences of having unprotected sex (both in terms of HIV/AIDS and teenage pregnancy)
The program was edited by Vincent Mboku.
The DVD was launched on 09 September 2010 in Ongwediva in the presence of the youth attending the 2010 festival. It was extremely well received. It will now be presented in Outjo, Khorixas, Karibib, Usakos and Okahandja (youth groups attending the 2009 OYO youth festival). It will further be launched at the FNCC in Windhoek on 01 and 02 February 2011.
