OYO and the Legal Assistance Centre have developed several joint projects this year. The LAC worked on a report on corporal punishment, using some information provided by OYO (OYO dedicated an issue of its popular magazine to ‘corporal punishment and discipline in 2009). The report aims at encouraging stakeholders to reflect on corporal punishment.
The report was launched at the College of Education to future teachers on 14 October 2010. OYO was asked to present a piece for the occasion. Five of OYO’s dancers (Nyandee Mbarandongo, Zito da Cunha, Paulina Tjitana, Mercy /Khaises and newcomer Linus Ndjorowoli) prepared a new piece, ‘I believe’ on the issue.
The short piece (8 minutes long) was extremely well received at the launch. The piece will probably be developed in the future as this is an issue that is likely to be on various agendas for some time.
