Bank Windhoek Arts Festival features exciting exhibition from OYO.
Ombetja Yehinga Organisation was proud to launch the Caring Namibian Man photographic exhbition at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) on Wednesday 6 September as part of the upcoming Bank Windhoek Arts Festival .
The fourth annual Bank Windhoek Arts Festival will begin in earnest on 15 September, featuring 45 productions in over 150 shows throughout the capital, in celebration of the richness of the Namibian arts scene.
The launch took place at the FNCC and was attended by members of the press and the public. Introduced by the new director of the Centre, Catherine Callotit, the exhbition celebrates the little seen side of the Namibian man as a positive, caring role model.
Professor Aldo Behrens, Co-ordinator of the festival also gave a speech, claiming both the FNCC and OYO as 'smart partners' of the festival. He proudly announced the dramatic growth in the popularity and variety of the festival which, over ten days, will showcase a varied selection of Namibian artists in the fields of music, drama, dance and visual arts.
Dr Philippe Talavera, director of OYO, spoke of the importance of the arts in our society. "I believe that art can change the way we live", he said at the launch of the exhibition, which features 49 moving photographs taken by young Namibians from across the country. He also spoke of an exciting future photographic project that will take place in 2007. If the quality of the photographs on display are anything to go by, there are high expectations that the new exhibition will be equally as innovative and as ground breaking in its quest to make us view the lives of others in new and thought-provoking ways.
The exhibition will run until 27 September at the FNCC, and entrance to view the photographs is free.
